Aaliyah Dana Haaughton gained fame after releasing the album she dubbed Age Ain't Nothing but a Number in 1994. She was only 15 at when the album was released and it was later renamed Gold. The group was strongly in the style of R. Kelly, and helped put her onto the scene. In 1996 Jermaine Durpri along with Timbaland joined forces to record the second album of hers, One In A Million. The album included the track If Your Boyfriend Only Knew as the single number one. With the release of this work Aaliyah received international recognition for her performance as an R&B artist. She appeared alongside the martial arts legend Jet Li in the action-romance film Romeo Must Die. Joel Silver, a film producer at an award show when she got the role and spotted her. She was a part of the Anne Rice-based vampire film Queen of the Damned, which came out in 2002. After that, she entered the Matrix by playing Zee on The Matrix Sequels having also performed on The Matrix Reloaded in 2003 as well as The Matrix Revolutions in the same year. However, she has also used Aarti Magumdar. Although she began her acting career with minor TV and film performances, her acting career picked up momentum in the mid-2000s.
